Obituary of Catherine Mitchum

Catherine Marie Boynt Mitchum, 73, wife of Anthony Craig Mitchum, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at MUSC. Born on February 19, 1951, in Brownsville, TX, she was a daughter of the late Vernon William Boynt and the late Elizabeth Ann Higginbotham Boynt. Mrs. Mitchum was a member of Screven Baptist Church, a church where she found comfort and joy within the embrace of her church family. She had a great love for traveling, and going on a cruise was her favorite vacation. Mrs. Mitchum loved her family and found immense happiness in spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Anthony Craig Mitchum of Pawelys Island; two children, Anthony Craig Mitchum, II (Tina) of Collegeville, PA and Deanna Mitchum of Pawleys Island; two grandchildren, Savannah Mitchum and Jentry Mitchum both of Collegeville, PA; two fur grand babies, Jackson and Lola; one brother, Vernon William "Billy" Boynt, Jr. of Walterboro; a special aunt, Jeannette Gamble of Columbia; and her second family, the members of Screven Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Boynt; and two sisters, Gwen Strain and Jackie Atkins. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Screven Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 AM - 11 AM Wednesday in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to Screven Baptist Church, 2221 S. Island Rd.
