Obituary of Loraine Cox

Loraine Hyman Childers Cox, 101, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024, at her home. Born on February 8, 1923, in Conway, she was a daughter of the late Myrtle Barnhill Hyman and the late Bright Hyman. She graduated from Conway High School and Farah Beauty Academy. Loraine was the owner and operator of Beauty Salon in Georgetown for many years before becoming an LPN in 1973. After becoming obtaining her nursing license, Loraine went on to work for Georgeotwn Memorial Hospital and Winyah Extended Care Center for 22 years. Loraine was a current member of First Baptist Church and had a great love for working in the church and serving on several committees throughout the years, teaching Sunday school until she was 97 years old. She enjoyed reading her Bible daily and the love she had for her family was immeasurable. She enjoyed traveling and visiting Israel was the hi-light of her life. Through her travels and love for lighthouses, she also was able to visit most of the lighthouses from Maine to Key West, FL. She was also member of the Order of the Eastern Star. “To know her was to love her” and she was loved by many. She had a want to help others and her infectious smile would light up a room. Survivors include her children, Linda Cox Ziglar (Bobby), Bowman R. Childers (Peggy), Tracy L. Childers (Jennifer), Deborah Westbrooks, Wanda Collins (Ronnie) and Dianne Brazen (Barry); stepdaughter, Dale Persutti; stepdaughter-in-law, Ann Cox; step sons-in-law, Butch Bauer and Rudy Carnes; grandchildren, Robin Cox Nelson, Terri Ziglar Miles, Sherri Ziglar Bradford, Larry Daryl Cox, Deanna Cox Chaney, Bowman D. Childers, April Childers, Rodney Childers, English Childers Cribb, Anna Adkins Stalnaker, Brandon Adkins, Brien Adkins, Michelle Collins Farnum, Heather Collins Lalor, Shron Martin Estelle, Ronnie Moore, Kim Rogers, Ginger Hathcock, Tammy Weaver, Jeff Cox, Robbie Cox, Ronnie Moore and Pam Jacobs; and many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bowman T. Childers and Jasper Cox; daughters, Geraldine Childers and Deniese Childers; son-in-law, Larry Cox; stepson, John Cox; stepdaughters, Dorothy Carnes and Ernestine Bauer; brothers, Edwin Hyman, John Henry Hyman, J.W. Hyman and Larry Hyman; sisters, Doris Lewis, Sarah Davis, Maggie Lewis and Cecil Todd. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, February 24, 2024, at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM in the church sanctuary.
