Obituary of Jay Hechler, III

John Peter “Jay” Hechler, III, 65, husband of Wanda Sue Carte Hechler, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born on June 30, 1958, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late Lilly Bell Coker Casselman and the late John Peter Hechler, Jr. Jay was one who never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He had a great love for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jay was a member of Rhems Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; three children, Renee Carte (Derrick Avant) of Georgetown, Dusty Hechler (Jessica) Georgetown and Desiree Hechler (Graham Plummer) of Pawleys Island; seven grandchildren, Aimarie, Ashton, Bud, Allison, Naythan, Jaydun and Emma; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Walter; two sisters, Darlene Taylor (Marvin) of Georgetown and Monica Casselman of Andrews; two brothers, VonLee Freeman of Andrews and Joey Freeman (Laura) of St. Louis, MS; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ethan Hechler; and two brothers, Leon Casselman and Raymond Freeman. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Rhems Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery.
