Obituary of Lou Lachicotte

Martha Louise “Lou” Lachicotte of Pawleys Island passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2024. Born in Georgetown, South Carolina, Lou was the daughter of Martha Louise McDonald Lachicotte and the late Arthur Herbert “Doc” Lachicotte, Jr. Lou grew up at Pawleys Island, SC, enjoying countless days spent with friends and family enjoying their time looking for sea shells on the beach, as well as swimming and fishing in Pawleys Creek. She attended Winyah High School and was a member of the Tennis and Highstepper teams, as well as The Secretary of The National Honor Society. After graduating from Winyah High School in 1984, she earned a B.A. degree in Communications from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She returned to Pawleys Island after college and embarked on a career in banking at Plantation Federal Bank. She later discovered her passion for real estate, and from 2008 to 2018 she worked alongside her father, serving as The President and CEO of The Lachicotte Company. Her relentless work ethic and passion for showing others the splendor of her native area led the company to new heights, and gave countless families the privilege of calling the Pawleys Island community their new home. Lou was deeply involved in the community and served on several boards including: Friends of Brookgreen Gardens, Teach My People and The Humanities Advancement Board at Clemson University. She also served faithfully as a member of the vestry at All Saints Church, Waccamaw. Lou was bright, beautiful and a devoted friend to many. Her cheerful personality was infectious. She loved life and people, and was always up for an adventure. Lou loved to travel, dine on delicious food & entertain friends in true Pawleys Island style. Lou never met a stranger. She loved openly and honestly, always finding the good in everyone she met. Her friends say that they never heard her say anything bad about anyone. Most importantly, Lou was grounded in her faith in Jesus Christ. She is survived by her son Adam R. Lachicotte, who was her world, her mother Martha M. Lachicotte, and her sisters Cecile L. Spivey and Virginia L. Aimar. A service in celebration of her life will be held at 3 P.M. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at All Saints Church, Waccamaw, 3560 Kings River Road, Pawleys Island, SC, followed by a reception in the ACTS building of the church.
