Anne DeLaine Barrineau Payne, 83, widow of Leonard Phifer Payne Jr, passed away Sunday September 17, 2023, surrounded by family at Lowcountry Community Hospice in Summerville SC. Delaine was born in Georgetown County on November 12, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Carroll Theodore Barrineau Sr. and Lizzie Ann B. Barrineau, mother of Derrick Phifer Payne of Andrews and Patrice Payne Hooper of Charleston, grandmother to Al, Zach, and Lauren Anne Hooper, and great-grandmother to Carolyn and Hayden Hooper. She was the sister of Gwendolyn B. Ward (Norris), Rebecca B. Smith, Sonya B. McConnell, Thomas "Tommy" Barrineau (Susan), the late Carroll T. Barrineau Jr, Hazeline B. Morris, Bronte B. Scott, and LaJean B. Owens Kinder. DeLaine had a lengthy career, split as a Principal's secretary at Andrews High School and Andrews Academy, and then as a bookkeeper at Allied Credit Services. She spent a majority of her free time outside in her yard, reading crime/mystery novels, and "shooting the breeze" on her back porch or on the phone with those she loved. She also enjoyed being in the kitchen, whether it was a meal for one or a Sunday dinner with family. “MommyD" was a proud supporter of her three grandchildren and their many endeavors, and most recently enjoyed spending time with her two great-granddaughters.
