Obituary of Barry Glenn High, Sr.

Barry Glenn High, Sr., 67, beloved husband of Lisa Butts High, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born on July 18, 1956, in Georgetown he was a son of the late James Hoyle High and the late Joyce Lena Long Casselman. Mr. High retired from Georgetown Steel after more than 40 years of service and was a member of Georgetown First Assembly of God. While Mr. High was in high school, Georgetown County schools were integrated. During this time, he was proud to be one of the first to integrate Howard School and play football there. Mr. High was a passionate sports enthusiast who dedicated over 20 years of his life to coaching recreational ball for local children and umpiring for high school baseball games in the area. He was a devoted supporter of Georgetown High School football and a regular game attendee. Mr. High was known for his unwavering commitment to the team and his infectious enthusiasm for the sport. He was a true inspiration to the young athletes he coached and mentored over the years. Outside of sports, Mr. High enjoyed shagging, fishing and drag racing. He was a devoted family man who cherished spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Barry’s legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched throughout his coaching and umpiring career and will be remembered as a true sportsman who embodied the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and dedication. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lisa Butts High of Georgetown; two sons, Barry G. "Bubba" High, Jr. (Mary) of Walterboro and Kenneth Kyle High (Cassidy McConnell) of Andrews; three grandchildren, Barry G. "Beau" High, III, Mary Banks High and Anne Lewis High; one niece, April High Phillips (Jared) of Walterboro; one nephew, James William High, Jr. (Sabrina) of Goldsboro, NC; three great nieces, Sophie Grace Phillips, Morgan High and Madison Miller; and a special cousin, Mary High Brown (Russell) of Conway; and his wife's family who he thought of as his own. He was preceded in death by a brother, James William High, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Monday, September 18, 2023, at Georgetown First Assembly of God. The family will receive friends from 3-5 Sunday at Georgetown First Assembly of God. In lieu of flowers, Barry would request any and all donations to be sent to Georgetown High School Football.
