Obituary of Ancil Leo Martin

Ancil Leo “Poppie” Martin, 89, husband of Barbara Ann House Martin, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at his home.

Born on November 25, 1929, in Conway, he was a son of the late Moses Goodwin Martin and the late Addie Pope Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of Screven Baptist Church and the Key Stone Sunday school class. He was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict and retired from International Paper Company after 42 years of service. Mr. Martin was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching Clemson football, the Atlanta Braves and fishing. Mr. Martin had a great love for children, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara House Martin of Georgetown; one daughter, Sheree Steen (Tyson) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Stacie Prettel of Myrtle Beach, Erica Steen of Georgetown, Erin Steen of Georgetown and Emily Steen of Georgetown; three great grandchildren, Lincoln Cook, Nixon Cook and Carter Cook all of Myrtle Beach; one brother, JT Martin (Miriam) of Georgetown; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Andy Martin; one brother, Joe Martin; and one sister, Mary Law.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Screven Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Powers and Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Ridgeway Funeral Home.
