Obituary of Burton Lavon Malphrus

Burton Lavon Malphrus, 82, beloved husband of Rev. Dr. Carolyn Rampley Malphrus, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at Oakbrook Health and Rehab in Summerville.

Born on November 19, 1936, in Ridgeland, he was a son of the late Cary Woodville Malphrus and the late Alma Mock Malphrus. Mr. Malphrus grew up on the family farm in Ridgeland and was retired from the US Army National Guard. He was a graduate of Beulah Heights University and a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Mr. Malphrus was very enthusiastic in doing God’s work which lead him to mission trips to Jamaica, ministering in the federal prison in Atlanta and being very active to every church his wife was appointed to.

Survivors include his wife, Rev. Dr. Carolyn Malphrus of Surfside Beach; one son, Burton Lavon "Von" Malphrus, II of Jackson, MS; a daughter, Nancy Malphrus Neal of Bardstown, KY; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cary Woodville Malphrus, Jr. and one sister, Shirley Malphrus Long.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Grace Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA. Inurnment will be private in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at Ridgeway Funeral Home in Georgetown, SC
