Obituary of Jody Leon Franklin Owens

Jody Leon Franklin Owens, 39, beloved husband of Karen Johnson Owens, departed this life Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 16, 1978, in Georgetown, he was a son of Larry Earl Owens and Joyce Ann Jordan Owens. Jody enjoyed spending his time on the water. Jody was the owner and captain of the Lady Karen fishing vessel and was a fourth generation commercial fisherman who grew up on the water working with his dad on his shrimp boat. Jody was a sweet and fun-loving person who lived life to the fullest and was one that could fit in anywhere. He loved helping others and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Jody was a very giving person and had a smile that would light up a room.

Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; mother and father of Georgetown; four children, Cameron Owens and Emma Johnson of Georgetown, Carley and Corey Owens of Andrews; one brother, Larry Owens, Jr. (Sheila) of Georgetown; paternal grandparents, Lonnie and Margie Pope of Georgetown; a very special niece, Carson Owens (Jake Wall) of Georgetown; two nieces, Elizabeth Johnson of Richmond Hill, GA and Kelsey Cook of Ward; three nephews, Bode and Andrew Johnson of Richmond Hill and Collin Cook of Ward; one great niece, Wynter Wall of Georgetown; mother in law and father in law, Bill "Bubba" Johnson and Irene Johnson of Georgetown and a brother in law, Bill Johnson (Brenda) of Ward.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leon and Dorothy Jordan.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Georgetown First Assembly of God with Rev. Lynn Wood Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the church.
