Obituary of John Henry Gladson

John Henry “Jay” Gladson, Jr., 90, husband of Mary N. Gladson, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Born on February 13, 1925, in Georgetown, he was the son of the late John Henry Gladson, Sr. and the late Sulie Jayroe Gladson. Mr. Gladson was a member of First Baptist Church and the Spirit of Liberty Fellowship Sunday school class. He was a retired US Army Veteran having served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gladson was a recipient of many medals to include the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family and pets. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; six children, John G. Gladson of Roanoke, VA, Ray E. Gladson (Gay) of Roanoke, VA, Baron B. Newton, Jr. (Judy) of Lake Charles, LA, Corbett Newton (Sherilyn) of Andrews, Cindy L. Newton of Davidson, NC and Charlotte N. Skipper (Kevin) of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bobby and Margaret Burton of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his first wife; Mary Elizabeth Gladson; and two sisters, Violet Warr and Harriett Woodruff. Funeral Services will be held at 2PM Friday, July 3, 2015 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in Sampit United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice House, 2591 N.
