Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth "Libby" Poston McElveen

Margaret Elizabeth "Libby" Poston McElveen, 88, widow of Henry J. McElveen, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Prince George Healthcare Center.

Born on May 24, 1930, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late William Kirvin Poston and the late Lula Poston. Mrs. McElveen was a member of Georgetown First Assembly of God where she was involved in Women’s Ministry. Early on in her career as a cosmetologist, Mrs. McElveen went against all odds, in an era when women did not work, and opened Libby’s Beauty Shop. It was in this beauty shop she worked tirelessly and lovingly helping others. Through her love and care of her customers, Mrs. McElveen would travel around town, every day, just to pick up her elderly customers so they could have their hair done. Mrs. McElveen enjoyed going to church, reading her Bible, shopping and most of all spending time with her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend that will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Survivors include five children, Evelyn M. Sanders, Angela Elliott (Craig), Teressa M. Todd (Beaver), Leonard J. McElveen (Jane) and Terrell McElveen all of Georgetown; eight grandchildren, Sheila Sanders Owens, Kimberly Elliott Sadri, April Todd, Ron Todd, Kirsten Elliott Howard, Reid McElveen, Ashton McElveen and Brandon McElveen; six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Daisy L. Miller (Levon) of Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Poston and William Spencer “Bunt” Poston; two sisters, Lizzie Dae Ard and Louise Cox.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 6, 2018 at Georgetown First Assembly of God. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at Georgetown First Assembly of God.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct. Glen Allen, VA 23060.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Prince George Healthcare Center for the loving care they provided to Mrs. McElveen.
