William A. Saparito, Jr.

1932 — May 29, 2020

William (Bill) Anthony Saparito, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 29, 2020. He was born on February 18, 1932 to Margaret Rubino Saparito and William Anthony Saparito, Sr., in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his eldest son, William Anthony Saparito III. His younger years were spent among a group of friends that spent most of their time playing stickball and dice in the street. He then joined the US Navy where he perfected cooking eggs on the hood of a car in Africa and laughed about never being on a ship. He proudly served as an officer in the New York City Police Department stationed in Times Square and Hell's Kitchen and he retired in 1978 after serving 23 years in some very interesting situations. He always said he was going to write a book about being a cop but he had to wait for a few more people to pass. He was an avid golfer and an excellent (yes guys, excellent!) card player. He loved the music of Frank Sinatra, the New York Giants, the New York Rangers, vodka martinis and fishing on the Great South Bay. He was affable and had a magnetic personality the drew people to him. A spiritual man, he was very involved in his church. He most loved spending time with his large family who will continue to love him forever and beyond. Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife Angela (Jill) and his cherished children: Laura Leach (John), Debra Cullen (Joe), Steven (Sue), Ronald (Kitty), Robert (Susan), Gineen O'Neil (Matt) and Jody, his beloved sister Margo and brother-in-law Charles (Sue). There are sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a large number of family members and friends as well. So many special people - so many great memories: the sound of the ball plunking into the cup, royal flushes that take the pot, big fish flopping around on the deck and so much more for which he was eternally grateful. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of the Tidelands Health system and for the extraordinary and compassionate care at National Health Care of Garden City. In keeping with his wishes, no public services will be held. There will be a small family memorial service in the future. He would have liked to be honored with donations to St. Mary our Lady of Ransom, 317 Broad St, Georgetown, SC 29440 Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.ridgewayfh.com Ridgeway Funeral Home of Georgetown is in charge of the arrangements.
