Wayne Shoemake

1948 — March 10, 2023

George Wayne Shoemake, 74, beloved coach, umpire, and friend passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at his home. “Mr. Wayne”, as he was affectionally called, was born on May 4, 1948, in Hartsville, the son of the late Buddy Shoemake and the late Dorothy Hendrix Shoemake Dillon. He was a US Air Force veteran and a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon. “Mr. Wayne’s” world revolved around youth sports. He committed countless hours to the community by helping young boys and girls learn and understand whatever sport they playing. “Mr. Wayne” volunteered as a coach for County and Upward sports in Georgetown and Hartsville and worked as an umpire for over 30 years. No matter the circumstances, he always found time to be at the ball field, whether he was coaching, umpiring, or cheering for ALL the children that were playing. In the event, there were no games or practices, “Mr. Wayne” could be found eating and fellowshipping at the Ball and Que. Along with his love for sports, “Mr. Wayne” had a great love for his community and was the “adopted” granddad for countless children. Survivors include his sister, Dianne Shoemake Wall of Hartsville; one nephew, John Wall of Hartsville; a niece, Lisa Wall of Hartsville; a great nephew, Hunter Nobles of Charleston; special adopted families, Kim and Marc Cameron of Georgetown and their children, Kellar, Brice and Harrison and Alma and Roger Owens and their children, Lauren and Meredith; and numerous other special friends in Georgetown and Hartsville. He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Cyndi Jeffcoat; and a brother-in-law, John Wall Sr. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, March 19, 2023, at First Baptist Church. All are invited to wear your baseball/softball jersey or something Alabama Crimson red in honor of “Mr. Wayne”. Memorials may be made to Georgetown County Baseball/Softball Booster Club, PO Box 766 Georgetown, SC 29442, Georgetown High School Booster Club, 2500 Anthuan Maybank Dr. Georgetown, SC 29440, or to any organization for youth sports.
