Virginia Dale Martin Hewitt, 70, widow of Rev. Joseph Kurtis Hewitt, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, at the McLeod Hospice House.
Born on October 20, 1954, in Conway, she was a daughter of the late James Clarance Martin and the late Vivian Anna Barnhill Martin. Mrs. Hewitt was a faithful servant of God, whose dedication to her church and community was evident in all she did. As a cherished member of the Graves Southern Baptist Church, she participated actively in church activities, always eager to contribute her time and energy to advance the church's mission.
A gifted singer with a warm spirit, Mrs. Hewitt found immense joy in visiting nursing homes, where she would sing and share the word of God. Her visits brought comfort and happiness to countless residents, as she spread messages of hope and love through her melodious voice and heartfelt conversations. Mrs. Hewitt had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Her friendly demeanor and genuine interest in others made her a treasured friend to many. She loved to spend time visiting with people, always offering a listening ear and a caring heart.
Survivors include two sons, Elvin Stanley (Lori) of Conway and John Stanley of NC; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Kathy Martin of Pendleton, Karen Ackerman (Bob) of Georgetown and Gail Player of Georgetown; and several loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Stearns and a brother, Gene Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Graves Southern Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sampit United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
