Vernelle Miller Carnley, 96, widow of George Wilburn, Sr., passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Morningside Assisted Living.
Born on March 22, 1924, in Hemingway, she was a daughter of the late Neal Carvus Miller and the late Carrie Cribb Miller. Mrs. Carnley was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Ruth Sunday school class. After high school, Mrs. Carnley became a beautician and would later retire, after more than 30 years of teaching kindergarten, at First Baptist Church. Mrs. Carnley was a true southern woman with a green thumb who enjoyed spending time working in her yard tending to her roses. She had a great love for sports and the Atlanta Braves. Mrs. Carnley enjoyed reading and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include two children, George W. Carnley, Jr. (Rose) of Georgetown and Joy Carnley Morin of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Roxanne Willis (Ben) of Conway, Jamison Morin of Georgetown, Morgan Loyd (Chad) of Myrtle Beach and Jessica Lahti (Sampsa) of Mikkeli, Finland; six great grandchildren, Chloe, Maggie, Sophia, Hampton, Cameron and Johanna; two sisters, Mary Miller Pope (Irby) of Georgetown and Frankie Miller Harrell (Wylie) of Charleston; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son in law, Richard Morin; three sisters, Marion Tanner, Gladi Brandon and Gertrude Cribb; six brothers, Floyd Miller, Roland Miller, Jr., J.D. Miller, Neal Miller, Jr., Jimmy Dale Miller and Charles Edward Miller.
A graveside service for close friends and family will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland St. Georgetown, SC 29440.
