Roy Tyrone “Tony” Hutchinson of Georgetown, South Carolina, husband of Aileen Pope-Hutchinson, entered into eternal rest on October 30, 2023.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Ringel Heights Baptist Church, 78 Rubin Avenue, Georgetown, SC 29440. Officiating will be Rev. James Harrelson and Rev. Kenny Johnson. Interment will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive guests, in the church sanctuary from 2 PM – 3 PM
Tony was born July 16, 1942, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Leroy Hutchinson and the late Blanche Elizabeth Gaskins-Hutchinson. He was the maternal grandson of the late Rev. Ringold Gaskins and the late Addie White-Gaskins, and paternal grandson of the late James Evander Hutchinson and the late Mary Ella Jones-Hutchinson.
Tony was a 1962 graduate of Winyah High School and a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy as Boatswain mate aboard the USS William C. Lawe (DD-763) Destroyer from 1962-1968 (4 years active, 2 years in the Reserves). He was also a member of the American Legion Post #172.
Tony retired from Georgetown Steel Corporation after 29 years of service. He had a great love of the outdoors, camping, fishing, and boating, no matter where it took him.
Tony is survived by his wife, Aileen, of Sumter, SC; two daughters, Angela Lynn Hutchinson-Pendarvis (Conner) of Jacksonville, FL and Amy Crystal Hutchinson-King (Rob) of Fort Mill, SC; four grandsons, Trey Elliott, Trent Elliott, Clay King and Logan King; one brother, James Larry Hutchinson (Nellie) of Oak Harbor, WA; a sister-in-law, Wanda Pope Drawdy of Sumter, SC; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol Pope Cribb and Michael Cribb of Georgetown, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Prisma Health Hospice and Hospice nurses; Ellen Keefer, Courtney Keefe, Daisy Glover, Debbie Miles, Tammy Kraft; and Prisma Hospice Clergy, Chaplain Marvis Stewart. The family would also like to extend their deepest appreciation to Chase Ridgeway and the entire staff of Ridgeway Funeral Home for the excellent care they provided for the Hutchinson family.
