Thelma Tanner Forbes

Thelma Mae Tanner Forbes, 88, widow of Simon Benjamin Forbes, entered eternal rest on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Prince George Healthcare Center. Thelma was born on December 24, 1932 to Willie Davis and Eva Mae Cribb Tanner in Georgetown, SC. Thelma was a staple for many years behind the counter at Cameron’s Pharmacy and prior to that, Tindall’s store. She was a friendly face to everyone that came in, and she knew everyone’s names. Thelma loved to travel and see new places. She especially loved to go to the Mountains with her husband, Simon, after they both retired. Thelma was a long-time member of Duncan United Methodist Church and attended every Sunday that she was able. After church, Thelma and Simon loved to take their family out to a long, leisurely lunch. Thelma’s greatest joy was her family, and she loved cooking a big family meal for every holiday. As Simon and Thelma got older instead of cooking at home, they could be found at the Ball & Que every day during lunch. She loved their fried oysters! Thelma was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was a hard worker and was loved by all who met her. She will be missed dearly by all that knew her. Thelma is survived by two sons, Brantley (Debbie) Forbes of Georgetown, and Legrand (Carla) Forbes of Beaufort; three grandsons, Ben (Kim) Forbes of Georgetown, Will (Leslie) Forbes of Georgetown, and Patrick Forbes of Mount Pleasant, SC; one granddaughter Erica Forbes of Reston, VA; two great-granddaughters Gracie and Josie Forbes of Georgetown; one sister, Dorris Miller of Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Priscilla Redick and Lillie Von Creel; and two brothers, Patrick Tanner and Sonny Tanner. Funeral services will be private due to COVID-19. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Duncan United Methodist Church, 901 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.
