Teresa Odum

Teresa Ann Avant Odum, 70, wife of Berties Dewitt “Buck” Odum, left this world to extend her life in Heaven, on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Born on December 30, 1954, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late Johnson William Avant and the late Margie Lambert Avant. Teresa had a heart of gold and a spirit of a wildflower. Her strength was the power that helped heal many hearts within family and friends. Teresa was a quiet and simple woman. She never complained about anything in life no matter how difficult things were. Teresa had nine lives like a cat. A jack of all trades, Teresa held many jobs.

She had countless hobbies that she enjoyed doing in her free time. Teresa was truly blessed with a beautiful soul. There are not enough words to express how much she will be missed. Someone that would climb mountains for anyone, Teresa was a beloved wife and mother that will always be like a dragon fly in the wind. 

Her legacy will live on in the hearts of many. This poem is dedicated to her:

Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what's to be, 

A resting place along the road, To sweet eternity.

We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, 

we all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay…

Our destination is a place, far greater than we know.

For some the journey's quicker, For some the journey's slow.

And when the journey finally ends, we’ll claim a great reward, 

And find everlasting peace,

Together with the lord. You will be cherished forever.

Survivors include her beloved husband Berties Dewitt “Buck” Odum; a daughter, Fonda Odum (Timmy Cook); a brother, Tony Dean Avant (Diane); a sister, Darlene Avant Howard; a lifelong best friend, Shelby Flye; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Ridgeway Funeral Home
