George S. “Steve” Perritt, 80, beloved husband of Josephine Bartlett “Jo” Perritt, passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 at his home. Born on June 20, 1940, in Columbia, he was the son of the late Travis Perritt and the late Juanita Stanley Perritt. Steve was an US Army veteran and was a founding member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. After more than 20 years of working for Southern Coatings, Steve retired and found a new passion for cutting grass and doing odd jobs for a local real estate company. He had a great love for classic cars and working in the yard, but above all he loved spending time with his family. Steve will be remembered as a loving generous man who was always willing to help someone in need. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Josephine Bartlett “Jo” Perritt of Sumter; a daughter, Donna Ridgeway (Timmie) of Sumter; two grandchildren, Scott Ridgeway (Kendaley) of Sumter and Chase Ridgeway (Amanda) of Georgetown; four great grandchildren, Hunter Ridgeway, Kennedy Ridgeway, Weston Ridgeway and Sadie Ridgeway; and two nieces, Terri Finley of Sumter and Tammi Harrell (Glenn Allen) of Rock Hill. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline Perritt Welch. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, July 27, 2020 at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home in Sumter with Rev. Robert Nance officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Whit Newman, Ken McInnis, Kenneth McInnis, Jim Richardson, Jamie Richardson and Garry Nesbitt.
