Shirley Mae Jayroe Hutto, 83, widow of Harry Leroy Hutto, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019 at her home.
Born on October 13, 1935, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late William Henry Jayroe and the late Annie Mae Cooper Jayroe. Mrs. Hutto was a very outgoing individual and was involved in many things in and around Georgetown and McClellanville. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, traveling, working with ceramics, sewing, crocheting and cross stitching. Mrs. Hutto had a great love for gardening and was a member of the Garden Club in Georgetown and McClellanville. She was a former school teacher at Archibald Rutledge Academy and was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church of Georgetown and New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church of McClellanville. Mrs. Hutto was a loving and generous woman, and family meant more to her than anything.
Survivors include three children, Ronald Hutto (Mae) of McClellanville, Robin Poai of Georgetown and Sheila Mopas (Michael) of Oahu, HI; four grandchildren, Lee Hutto (Patty) of Mt. Pleasant, Lisa Hutto of McClellanville, Ian Mopas of Oahu, HI and Dylan Mopas of Georgetown; four great grandchildren, Ronnie Hutto, Courtney Hutto, Wyatt Hutto and Kira Mopas; four sisters, Linda Hardee, Connie Owens (Wesley), Nora Overturf and Vivian Wall (Jimmy) all of Georgetown; one brother, Harold Jayroe (Nell) of Columbia; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved four legged companion, Anna Bella.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Hutto; and four brothers, Larry, Jerry, Johnny and Bruce Jayroe.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in the Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church Chapel, a place that held a piece of her heart, that she helped build with her senior class and then months later, she and the love of her life would be the first couple to be married in the quaint chapel. A very dear cousin, Rev. Richard Jayroe will be officiating. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM Wednesday at the church.
