Mrs. Ruth Iona Prince Pinner widow of James Henry Pinner Sr., 96, of Missroon Street died Friday, August 24, 2018 at Embrace Hospice House in Carolina Forest after suffering a broken hip at the end of July.
Mrs. Pinner was born March 6, 1922 in the Wampee Community of Horry County, SC a daughter of sharecroppers Joseph “Joe” Ardell Prince Sr. and Henrietta “Etta” Devoe Ward Flynn Prince. She was the Wampee-Little River High School valedictorian class of 1940 where she was also captain of the basketball team that went all the way to the state championship. After high school she and her sister Mae became waitresses in Columbia, SC for their cousin Maree Hufham Manos and her husband Nick.
After returning to Horry County she married James Henry Pinner Sr. of the Bucksport Community and they eventually settled in Georgetown, SC where she worked at the Box Plant, the Dress Plant and Sears Roebuck Co. When she was able she attended First Assembly of God and she enjoyed being a part of the Salvation Army’s Home League. She remained in Georgetown until a few years ago when she moved to Conway, SC to live with her daughter Dolores.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband, her son Gerald “Jerry” Allen Pinner, grandson Kenneth Allen Pinner and siblings Joseph Scarborough Prince, Ila Mae Prince Johnson Wyatt, Thelma Viola Prince Howell Rogers, Joseph Ardelle “Junior” Prince Jr. and Thomas Howard Prince Sr.
Surviving are her children Dolores Anne Pinner Martin and husband Joe of Conway, James “Jim” Henry Pinner Jr. and wife Bobbi of Jamestown, Joseph Robert “Bob” Pinner Sr. and wife Shirley of Wilmington, NC, Richard “Dick” Edward Pinner and wife Marie of Newport, TN, Ruth Carol “Carol” Pinner Mixson and husband Sammy of Georgetown and daughter in law Nancy C. Pinner of Murrells Inlet; grandchildren Mike Martin, Robb Pinner, Kelly Martin Holmes, Thadd Paul Chafin, Mark Martin, Rozlyn Pinner, Brandon Tahquette, Brian Tahquette, Jamie Pinner and Kim Pinner, step grandchildren Bill Stone, Chett Long, Sydonie Long Wallace, Jody Strickland, Bridget Collins Williams, Jenny Collins Chastain, Stephanie Mixson Brazzle; 15 great grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Monday, August 27, 2018 at Georgetown First Assembly of God. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM Monday at the church.
