Robert George Zothner, 84, husband of Trudy Lawson Zothner, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at his home. Born on April 24, 1938, in Lakewood, OH, he was a son of the late George Frank Zothner and the late Celia West Zothner. Mr. Zothner was a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown. Through his commitment to Christ, he would visit shut-ins and never missed a moment to ask someone about their relationship with Jesus. Mr. Zothner had a love for others and shared this love through coaching, mentoring and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Zothner was a US Coast Guard Veteran and was a retired Air Traffic Controller. He had a great love for aviation that lead him to become a private pilot and an airplane mechanic. Along with his love for aviation, Mr. Zothner also had a passion for working on cars, riding motorcycles and square dancing. As an avid outdoorsman, he built a boat, enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing, boating and cycling. Mr. Zothner also rescued several Weimaraners that he loved. Mr. Zothner was a great husband, father and granddad that loved Jesus and God’s Word more than anything else. He was a beautiful, gentle and loving man who will be greatly missed as he rest in the arm’s of Jesus. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; five children, Mike Kirk (Whitney) of Pensacola, FL, Eric Zothner (Tracy) of Pittsboro, NC, Scott Zothner of St. Petersburg, FL, Angela Kirk of Raleigh, NC and Sherry Cox (Brian) of Peachtree City, GA; five grandchildren, Kristie Zothner of Pittsboro, NC, Matt Zothner of Philadelphia, PA, Corbin Cox of Tempe, AZ, Campbell Cox of Peachtree City, GA and Saoirse Kirk of Pensacola, FL; one brother, Gordon Zothner (Alice) of Houston, TX; brother-in-law, Lee Jackson of Sharpsburg, GA; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Katie Jackson. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Monday, January 23, 2023, at First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland St. Georgetown, SC 29440.
