Richard O’Neal Martin, 69, beloved husband of Deborah Mackey Martin, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born on August 17, 1953, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Willie Hopson Martin and the late Frances Virginia Creel Martin. Mr. Martin was a devoted member of Georgetown Church of God where he served on the church council and was head of security. He was a US Navy veteran and was retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Mr. Martin continue working in law enforcement after his retirement with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office as a civil processor and served as a board member of the Georgetown Kraft Credit Union. He had a great love for motorcycles, working in his yard and most of all his family. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; two children, Richard Eric Martin (Marsha) of Jacksonville, FL and Heather Danielle Martin Smith (Hoyt) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Jake Martin, Lauren Smith, Luke Martin and Ethan Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dena Adams; and four brothers, Edward Martin, Terry Martin, Willie Martin and John Russell Martin. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 3, 2023, at Georgetown Church of God. Burial will be in Plantation Memorial Gardens on Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Sunday at Georgetown Church of God. Memorials may be made to the Georgetown Church of God, Home Missions, 2201 Highmarket St. Georgetown, SC 29440.
