Noah Jackson Benton

Noah Jackson Benton, 20, passed away, Tuesday March 2, 2021. He was born on March 16, 2000, to Michael and Sheila Benton in Georgetown, SC. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Zachary M. Benton, maternal grandfather, Clinton Jackson, aunts Angela Rosenmeier (Steven), Pamela McDuffie (Oscar) and Cathy Benton Lowery; uncles include Larry Benton (Donna) and Rance Jackson (Valerie), and many special cousins and close friends. Noah was an amazing sailor, taking the title of 2018 Y-Flyer Senior National Champion in the Challenger Division and Second place in the 2018 Y-Flyer Junior National Championship. He loved sailing for the Waccamaw High School Competitive Sailing Team, earning a Varsity letter his Senior year and the level of team captain his Junior and Senior years with WHS. Sailing for the high school took him to many places including North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. His highest honor was attending the SAISA District Championships in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2015. He also placed in the top 5 in many 420 and Y-Flyer regattas over the years. Camp Seagull is where he developed a love for sailing and thanks to a friend he was pulled back into the world of sailing as a teenager. Noah’s love for the water did not stop with sailing. Since he was a baby he loved anything having to do with the water; boating, tubing, fishing, and surfing with his friends locally and on road trips. As an outdoorsman, he loved summers when he was able to spend time tromping through the mountain woods and trekking the cold creeks. As a hunter he found the 209 lb. 10 pointer in Georgetown County at the age of 10. Camping and hiking were always an adventure enjoyed with Pack 396 in Murrells Inlet and Troop 360 in Pawleys Island where Noah earned the rank of Star Scout. A celebration of Noah’s life will be held at the South Carolina Maritime Museum, 729 Front Street, Georgetown, SC, 29440, Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 1:00 pm. Please join the family in remembering this special young man. Mask wearing and social distancing will be expected. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Harbor Historical Association/Noah Benton. These donations will support The Noah Benton Memorial Scholarship Fund created to promote the South Carolina Maritime Museum’s youth sailing program where Noah worked as a sailing instructor.
