Maydelle McCrackin Johnson, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Waterstone on Augusta Senior Living in Greenville.
Born on December 25, 1934, in Aynor, she was a daughter of the late William Walker McCrackin and the late Mazie Carroll McCrackin. Ms. Johnson graduated from Aynor High School, where she shone brightly on the basketball court. Her exceptional skills earned her a place in the Aynor High School Hall of Fame, recognition as an All-State basketball player and a member of their state championship team for 4 consecutive years. She was fast and she could score! After high school, Ms. Johnson continued her education at Winthrop University, graduating and then pursuing a career dedicated to teaching.
For over 40 years, Ms. Johnson inspired young minds as an elementary school teacher in the Georgetown area. Her commitment to her students and her love for learning left a lasting impact on countless lives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was deeply involved in various church activities. Ms. Johnson was a cherished member of the senior choir and the Lydia Sunday School class. Her dedication extended to volunteering at the concession stand for Upward Basketball, where she supported the community's youth with her warm smile and generous spirit.
Ms. Johnson had a great love for the USC Gamecocks. Her hobbies included reading, playing cards, fishing, square dancing, and crafting, all of which she enjoyed with great enthusiasm and skill. Her legacy of love, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Survivors include two children, Larry Johnson (Lisa) of Pawleys Island and Teresa Johnson "TJ" Saad (Jerry) of Greenville; four grandchildren, Kristen Mitchell (Jordan) of Greenville, Ryan Williams (Ashley) of Greenville, Lauren Johnson Threatt (Austin) of Ft. Mill, and Walker Johnson (Erin) of Ft. Mill,; six great grandchildren, James Williams, Rosemary Williams, Winnie Williams, Luke Mitchell, Everett Mitchell and Dean Johnson; one sister, Mazie Pehl of Charlotte, NC; a beloved niece, Tracey Heintze (Rudy) of Charlotte, NC; a beloved nephew, Keith Pehl (Jocelyn) of Charlotte, NC; in addition to numerous other beloved relatives.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Boston McCrackin, Clifton McCrackin, Belton McCrackin, Clinton McCrackin, and Felton McCrackin and one sister, Estelle Landry; and a beloved brother-in-law, Glen Pehl.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Inurnment will follow in the Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Aynor.
