Mark Louis Hess

Mark Louis Hess, 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on April 24, 2022. Mark was born on December 12, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from City College in Baltimore, he went on to study Philosophy and Religion at University of Pennsylvania. After college graduation, Mark served as a Captain in the United States Air Force before entering the emerging computer industry. He was proud of his career working for IBM, Amdahl and Gartner Group. Mark retired to South Carolina where he has lived for seventeen years. In his retirement, he was active with Toastmasters, The Bunnelle Center, Lifelong Learning, and the Working Georgetown Waterfront Project. He served as president of Myrtle Beach SCORE and was on the Board of Directors at Kaminski House. Mark was passionate about international travel and enjoyed fine wines. He cultivated life-long relationships with people all around the world and loved nothing more than to be in a meaningful conversation. Mark is survived by his beloved wife and life partner, Sue Hess; his children, Heidi Hess-Webber (Randy) and Michael Hess; his grandchildren, Michael Hess Webber (Scott Braid), Shea Hess Webber (Alex Koufos), and Tanner Hess Webber. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Eleanor Hess, and his brother, Richard Hess. There will be a Celebration of Life on the Kossrove Terrace at Kaminski House on Wednesday, April 27th at 1:30pm. An additional memorial event will be planned in the Baltimore/Washington area in the near future.
