Marilyn Francis Sinclair, 83, widow of William Allen Sinclair, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Prince George Healthcare Center.
Born on October 5, 1939, in Conway, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Kennedy Francis and the late Doris Mattson Francis.
Mrs. Sinclair was a member of Prince George Winyah Church. She served selflessly and with great joy on the altar guild for 17 years, was a member of the St. Anne's Chapter, and also volunteered every year during the Annual Plantation Tours. Her unwavering devotion to her church was truly commendable.
Mrs. Sinclair graduated from Winyah High School and The University of South Carolina. She dedicated her life to the service of education in our community, spending 35 years working at Maryville Elementary. During her time there, she taught first grade and later served as the school librarian, nurturing generations of young minds, while instilling in them a love for literature and knowledge. Her gentle guidance and steadfast commitment to education will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, love for her family and friends, and selfless service.
Her hobbies included gardening, reading, cooking, and relaxing on her back porch. Many of her friends and family members were treated to her chicken salad over the years, which she loved making and sharing. This was her way of keeping up with her friends by visiting and blessing them with food that she had made especially for them to enjoy.
Her most treasured and valued roles though, were that of wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Mrs. Sinclair will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and those whose lives she touched throughout her life. May her soul find eternal peace.
Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne S. Burbage (Bruce) of Charleston, SC, a grandson, Andrew Burbage also of Charleston, and a step grandson, Bryan Burbage.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William Allen Sinclair, her parents, and her sister, Linda Player.
The family would like to thank all of Marilyn’s dedicated caregivers from Arbor Landing at Pawleys, Prince George Healthcare Center, and Tidelands Community Hospice. We are forever grateful for their kind and compassionate care over the past three years.
Memorial services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Prince George Winyah Church.
The family will receive friends after the service in the Parish Hall of Prince George Winyah Church. Private Interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Prince George Winyah Preschool, 300 Broad Street, Georgetown, SC 29440 and Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St. Georgetown, SC 29440.
