Lucille Kelly

1927 — April 9, 2023

Lucille McKinley Kelly, 95, widow of Herbert Samuel Kelly, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her home. Born on December 25, 1927, in Jackson, AL, she was a daughter of the late James Leonard McKinley and the late Mattie Rebecca Criswell McKinley. Mrs. Kelly was married to Sam Kelly, who preceded her in death in 1988. Mr. Kelly worked for International Paper Company which led them to live in many different states, never living anywhere they didn’t enjoy. In 1981 they moved to Georgetown and made it their forever home. Mrs. Kelly was a member of First Baptist Church where she served on various committees and was a member of the Young As Ever group, the Ruth Sunday school class and WMU. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary at Georgetown Hospital Systems for over 30 years, volunteering in the gift shop. To her this was a ministry that she took great joy in. She loved people and enjoyed helping people who needed someone to talk to at a difficult time while their loved ones were there. Mrs. Kelly was a very independent lady who was dedicated to her Christian faith and serving the Lord in all aspects of her life. Her life was dedicated to raising her children to love the Lord. Mrs. Kelly’s family was her greatest joy, and her happiest days were caring for them. Survivors include a daughter, Jan Kelly of Georgetown; a son, Tim Kelly (Sherre) of Nashville, TN; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Kelly of Mobile, AL; seven grandchildren, Kelly Howard (David), Katherine Hawley (Josh), Chip Kelly (Meagan), Abby Sevigny, Rusty Kelly, Morgan Kelly and Sam Kelly (Ashelynn); two great grandchildren, Tyler Hawley and Max Sevigny; one sister, Dorothy Hudson (Harold) of Jackson, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. The loss of her precious children, Barbara Hoven, Terry Kelly, Sammy Kelly and daughter-in-law, Geannene Kelly, left a big void in her heart and her life. She had a great faith that carried her through her heartbreak and looked forward to the day she would meet her Lord when he called her home. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marguerite Payne and Shirley Savage. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, April 14, 2023, at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM before the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland St. Georgetown, SC 29440 The family would like to express their gratitude to Amedisys Home Health Care, Jessica Harwell, Cheryl Kalacanic, Ashley Rogers and Susan Buckman for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Kelly.
