Linda Mae Cameron Bailey, 86, widow of Herman Herbert “Herb” Bailey, Jr., passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, at Tidelands Community Hospital.
Born on August 30, 1937, in Marion, she was a daughter of the late Julius Elmore Cameron and the late Tommie Bell Godbold Cameron. A graduate of Winyah High School, Mrs. Bailey was known for her athletic ability on the basketball court as well as her grace and precision as a majorette. Her younger years were not only marked by her athletic but also by her remarkable poise and charm which earned her the title of Miss Georgetown. Mrs. Bailey was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church and had a creative spirit which was evident in her love for sewing, crafting and working in her yard. In addition to her creative side, Mrs. Bailey was known for her love of socializing on the phone, always ready to lend an ear or share a laugh with friends and family.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Survivors include three children, Bert Bailey (Patricia) of Summerville, Chris Bailey (Melanie) of Salisbury, NC and Melissa Bailey of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Lauren Blaine (Benton) of Charlotte, NC, Brittany Stephens (Jarrad) of Niceville, FL and Cody Bailey (fiancé Elizabeth Rogers) of Georgetown; three great grandchildren, Kherington Stephens and Emma Stephens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Elmore Cameron; and three sisters, Frances Johnson, Joyce Stevenson and Anita Hall.
An inurnment service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
