Lessie Mae Thomas McCants, 83, widow of John Taylor "JT" McCants, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center surrounded by her children.
Born on September 10, 1940, in Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Tom Thurlo Thomas and Sara Edith Thomas. Mrs. Lessie was the epitome of the Godly woman spoken of in Proverbs 31, as her faith and devotion to her Lord and Savior was unwavering. She dedicated her life to serving others who were often forgotten, such as the elderly and those less fortunate - a true servant's heart. Mrs. Lessie was a charter member of Maryville Pentecostal Holiness Church where she taught Sunday School for 40 years. An avid reader of her bible, Mrs. Lessie knew there was always a “time to laugh” as Ecclesiastes 3:4 promises. Her wit and whimsy made her notorious for harmless pranks and perfectly timed zingers. Lending a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, or a funny story to tell, like Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:22, Mrs. Lessie became whatever someone needed to save them. She was at her happiest working in her flower garden, mowing her lawn on her zero turn, and enjoying family time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her immense love for her family was unmatched.
Survivors include her favorite daughter, Beth Cribb (Charles), and her favorite son, Deryl McCants (Becky) all of Georgetown. Her grandchildren, Joni Grant (Shannon) of Georgetown, Dr. Carmen Roberts (Mark) of Manning, John Deryl McCants (Lauren), and Brandon McCants (Lauren) all of Georgetown. Her littlest darlings, her great-grands, Bevan, Beckett, Linley, Ethan, Emma, and Elle. In addition, she had numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: brothers; Daniel Thomas and Steve Thomas, and sisters; Sara "Toby" Newton, Peggy Eaddy, Doris Harrington, Dorothy Poston, an infant Margie Lee, and also by a great-grandson, Evan Taylor Grant.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 4:30 pm at The Sanctuary at Maryville. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at The Sanctuary at Maryville.
Memorials may be made to The Sanctuary at Maryville, 2014 Poplar Street, Georgetown, SC 29440. Friends and family who wish to feel Mrs. Lessie’s presence again need only step outside on a warm sunny day, enjoy the breeze, and stop for a moment to smell the flowers.
