Joyce Skipper

1935 — February 23, 2024

Joyce Odessa Johnson Skipper, 88, widow of Rev. Thomas Edward Skipper, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at her home. Born on September 29, 1935, in Jamestown, she was a daughter of the late David Calvin Johnson and the late Lillian Odessa McConnell Johnson. Mrs. Skipper married the love of her life on June 8, 1956, and together, they spent 57 years dedicated to serving the Lord. As a supportive minister’s wife, Mrs. Skipper was involved in Women’s Ministries, taught Sunday school, and ministered through music, playing the piano and the organ. Her faith guided her every action, embodying the virtues of a true Proverbs 31 woman. Beyond her commitment to her community and church, Mrs. Skipper found joy in the simple pleasures of life and enjoyed cooking, baking, crafting, sewing, and solving word search puzzles. She was a member of Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Church and also attended Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was retired from Stuckey Brother’s Furniture after more than 25 years of service. Mrs. Skipper was a beloved wife, mother, and friend, but most of all she was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Kevin Skipper (Charlotte) of Georgetown; two grandchildren; special grandchildren, Elijah and Jillian Metherd of Georgetown; and great-grandson, Alexander Metherd of Georgetown; a brother-in-law, B.F. "Junior" Crawford of Alvin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lee Ellen Skipper; sisters, Minnie Jean Johnson, Mary Alice Crawford and Jeanette "Jane" Crawford; and a brother, Elwood Johnson.
