John Robert “Jack” Hurley, 79, husband of Mary Ann Quarles Hurley, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Prince George Healthcare Center.
Born on September 21, 1936, in Long Island, NY, he was a son of the late William Robert Hurley and the late Ann Gleason Hurley. Mr. Hurley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed many things in life, including painting, drawing and classical music. His love for classical music led him to begin learning to play the violin at the age of 73. Mr. Hurley enlisted in the US Navy at age 18 and four years later enlisted in the US Merchant Marines. After being discharged for 4 years, Mr. Hurley re-enlisted in the US Army. During his enlistment in the US Army, he was stationed in Mosbach, Germany, Ft. Lewis and later served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Hurley was a wonderful husband and father and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; two children, Mary Beth Fairchild of Georgetown and Katherine Hurley Turner (Mike) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Julia Grace Livingston (Paul) of North Charleston, Rachel Annette McDaniel of Georgetown, David Allen Blankenship of Georgetown and John Hurley “Jack” Turner of Georgetown; one great grandchild, Sophia Claire Livingston of North Charleston; and one sister, Patricia Valante (Bob) of Maryland.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William Hurley; and three sisters, Margaret Gallager, Harriette Hurley and Ann Greenwood.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Monday, April 11, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Vickie Powell officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
