James William “Bill” Nichols, 74, widower of Betty Robinson Nichols, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital.
Born on June 8, 1942, in Charlotte, NC, he was a son of the late Earl Mason Nichols, Sr. and the late Gertrude Toomey Nichols. Mr. Nichols was a member of Herbert United Methodist Church. He was the former owner and operator of WGTN and WAZX radio stations, was a retired Public Information Officer with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and was a long-time member of the Georgetown County Council. Mr. Nichols was a former bus driver with Sunway Bus Lines, something he considered more of a hobby than a job and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include two children, Anita Nichols Williams (Butch) of Georgetown and Todd Nichols of Simpsonville; four grandchildren, Katherine Hunter Weaver and Rodney Carter Weaver, Jr. both of Georgetown, and Kennedy Claire Nichols and Parker Reece Nichols both of Simpsonville; one brother, Dennis Nichols of Lugoff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Carter Weaver; one brother, Earl Mason Nichols, Jr.; and two sisters, Faye Johnson and Rose Moore.
A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Herbert United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM Tuesday in the church fellowship hall.
