James Walter “JW” Grier, Jr., 73, husband of Elizabeth Chastie “Lizzie” Grier, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at his home.
Born on January 19, 1946, in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late James Walter Grier and the late Dorrell Rowe Grier. Mr. Grier grew up on Chicora Wood Plantation where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was retired from South Carolina Department of Transportation with 26 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth C. "Lizzie" Grier of Georgetown; two children, Angela Grier Powers (Jinks) of Hemingway and Pamela Grier Shelley (Kevin) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Jessica Powers Altman (Mark) of Hemingway, Caroline Shelley Goldman (Tyler) of Greenwood, Carson Shelley Castor (Zachary) of Georgetown and Caleb Jennings Powers of Hemingway; one great grandson, Matthew Kaden Altman of Hemingway; two sisters, Gertrude Grier Williams of Hemingway and Susie Grier Prosser (Leon) of Camden; one aunt, Cornelia Rodgers of Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Robert Grier.
Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in Good Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Ringel Heights Baptist Church.
