James Ervin “Jimmy” Elliott, 88, husband of Margaret Ann Ricks Elliott, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Born on November 11, 1936, in Georgetown County, he was a son of the late Jacob Ervin Elliott and the late Sarah Elizabeth “Lizzie” Avant Elliott. A pillar of the Lakewood Baptist Church, Mr. Elliott dedicated countless hours to his faith and church. He served as the Chairman of Deacons and was the Sunday School Director, roles in which he guided and inspired many. His deep commitment to his church reflected his enduring faith and love. Mr. Elliott devoted 40 years of his career to the International Paper Company and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Elliott was a proud graduate from Presbyterian College and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He had a passion for history which was evident in his involvement with the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Elliott also shared his love for history through co-authoring “The Walk Down Front Street" and assisting in the completion of "We Should Have a Port." Mr. Elliott also published several historical papers, leaving behind a rich legacy of knowledge and exploration.
Beyond his professional and civic contributions, Mr. Elliott found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener, often seen tending to his yard with care and enthusiasm. He was a proud member of the Winyah Indigo Society. Mr. Elliott will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his love of history, and his enduring kindness
Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; one son, Andrew Stephen Elliott (BeBe) of Myrtle Beach; three granddaughters that were the apple of his eye, Savannah Elliott, Sarah Elizabeth Elliott and Mary Margaret Elliott all of Myrtle Beach; one brother, Paul Glenn Elliott (Margaret) of Georgetown; a sister-in-law, Joan Elliott of Pawleys Island; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rick Alan Elliott; and a brother, Lewis Randolph Elliott.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Lakewood Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lakewood Baptist Church, 171 Lakewood Ave. Georgetown, SC 29440.
