James Edward Carter

Mr. James Edward Carter (Jimmy) left us to go to his heavenly home 12-31-1924 @ 12:57am. He was born on the side of the road over Easter weekend on April 4, 1949, in Williamsburg County SC to Jack Leroy Carter and Sadie Inez Ard of Hemingway, SC. Seventy-five years later, he died at his home in Georgetown County, SC in the presence of his beloved wife, Rebecca Sellars Carter.

Jimmy joined the United States Marine Corps at the tender age of seventeen. He served three tours in Vietnam and quickly rose to the rank of Seargent. Some people die in the war. Some die many years later after long suffering the ill-effects of the war, as did Mr. Carter. Please honor and respect the veteran.

After Jimmy served his tours in Vietnam, he was stationed at the Marine Corps base in Albany, GA. This is where he met and married the love of his life, Rebecca Ann Sellars (Becky). From there, he devoted his entire life to his wife and family. He cared very little for material possessions, but he could not be without his Becky. This led him to quit the military and become a civilian in 1972 just before his first child was born. Jimmy and Rebecca’s union produced three offspring: Calyn English Carter Holdaway (Daren), Allison Marie Carter Jepson (Brandon), and Dustin Camm Carter (Ashley).

In his civilian life, Jimmy became a master plumber and had his own plumbing company till his health forced him to go out on disability at the young age of forty-nine. Many years later, he was finally awarded his 100% Service-Connected disability due to developing ischemic heart disease from exposure to Agent Orange. This rating served him and his family well.

Jimmy is predeceased by his parents, Jack Leroy Carter and Sadie Inez Ard Carter Owens, and his siblings Donald Levier Carter, Harriet Carlene Ard, Basil Allen Carter (Nelda), and Guendel "Keith" Carter (Blanche). He is survived by his brother Charles Allen Carter (Ann) of Hemingway.

Jimmy’s offspring has produced 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. They are as follows: Calyn and Daren Holdaway of Pamplico SC: · Garret James Holdaway · Caden Jack Holdaway· Camille Elizabeth-Eve Holdaway Allison Jepson (Brandon) Royse City Texas: · Jennifer Nicole Elliott Perry (Jason) of Griffin Georgia (daughter of Allison and James Elliott)o Madelyn Faith Perryo Miles Landon Perryo Abigail Jean Perryo Amelia Grace Perry· James Vernon Elliott (Molly Dunnavant) of Greenville, Texas (son of Allison and James Elliott)o Jameson Ezekial Elliott Dustin Carter (Ashley Taylor) of Tacoma, Washington: · Dylan Dionisio Chandler Carter of Augusta, Georgia (son of Dusty and Diony Camacho Carter)· Gillian Ann Carter Almendrales (Jonatan) of Summerville, SC (daughter of Dustin and Audrey Fillop Slappey)o Enzo Almendrales· Asher Edward Carter · Hunter McKinlie Carter· James Edward Castiel Carter

The grandchildren fondly refer to Mr. Carter as Poppy. He was greatly loved and adored by each of them.

In addition, Mr. Carter leaves behind many nieces and nephews, one of which is Lana Jacobs of Pawleys Island, who though a niece, grew up with Mr. Carter as a sister. They share a bond that is inseparable.

Mr. Carter cherished his family and was so happy with his last Thanksgiving and Christmas when the family celebrated at his home in Georgetown, SC.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (34 Mormon Lane, Georgetown, SC) on January 11, 2025 @ 11:00am.
