Irving McLaurin Fleming, 78, husband of Ruby Ann Holt Fleming, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Prince George Healthcare Center in Georgetown.
Born on March 7, 1943, in Conway, he was a son of the late Benjamin M. Fleming and the late Georgia L. Fleming. Mr. Fleming was a member of First Baptist Church and the Billy Douglas Sunday school class. He was a graduate of Winyah High School where he played football wearing #64. Along with a love for pro and college football, Mr. Fleming also enjoyed watching his grandson play football at Georgetown High School. Although he loved sports, he also enjoyed going to watch his granddaughter perform in dance recitals.
He was a founding member of the Winyah Cruisers, where he served as a past president, and enjoyed going to car shows, collecting old cars and was the proud owner of a red 1964 GTO convertible. Mr. Fleming was retired from International Paper Company with 45 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; two children, Heather Fleming Stone (Andy) of Georgetown and Robert McLaurin "Robbie" Fleming (Melinda) of Lewiston, ID; three grandchildren, Tyler Stone, Madelyn Stone and Kyle Ridley (Audrie); five brothers-in-law, Jimmy Holt (Adrie) of Georgetown, Jerome Holt (Debby) of Murrells Inlet, Wendell Holt (Wanda) of Georgetown, Bill Kennedy of Georgetown and Paul Redmond of Murrells Inlet; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Coleman (Bill) of Georgetown and Peggy Lewis of Pensacola, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Fleming Kennedy and Minniebelle Layfield; and two brothers, Johnny Lewis and Jack Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at 4 PM Thursday, November 11, 2021, at First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parlor.
