Herman Prestelle “Terry” McKnight, Jr., 70, husband of Nakeather Morrison “Nickie” McKnight, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at MUSC.
Born on September 27, 1954, in Georgetown, he was the son of the late Herman Prestelle McKnight, Sr. and the late Cherry Bellflower McKnight. Terry grew up attending Screven Baptist Church and spent many years working at International Paper Company. However, as life progressed, he found joy pursuing what he loved most – commercial fishing alongside his beloved father-in-law, Louis “Bubby” Morrison.
The water was where Terry felt most at home; he immersed himself in the simple pleasures of fishing and boating, which brought him immense happiness. His love for the outdoors took him to being a former caretaker of the Springbank Plantation, and this love was matched only by his talents of cooking and barbecuing for family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
In addition to his various interests, Terry was a devoted baseball enthusiast, proudly serving as a coach for many years. Terry leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.
Survivors include his wife of McClellanville; four children, Aaron McKnight (Merilyn) of Glastonbury, CT, Jared McKnight (Ciara) of Vicksburg, MS, Katie Hara (Kyle) of Sausalito, CA and Tyler Ellis of McClellanville; 9 grandchildren, Haleigh McKnight, Abby McKnight, Bella McKnight, TJ McKnight, Cherry McKnight, JB McKnight, Ike McKnight, Fern Hara and Sho Hara; three sisters, Judy Ulrich (Glenn) of James Island, Linda Jones of Georgetown and Shirley Stanton (Don) of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sophia McKnight; and two sister, Katherine Bell and Sandra Landress; a father-in-law, Louis "Bubby" Morrison.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 9, 2024, at New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Old Cemetery Rd. in McClellanville.
The family will receive friends at the graveside prior to the service.
