Edith Victoria “Vicky” Camlin Mercer, 82, widow of John “Johnny” Thomas Mercer, passed away peacefully Friday, August 26, 2016 at her home.
Born on May 26, 1934, in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Orris Washington Camlin and the late Harriett Pernice Bruorton Camlin. Mrs. Mercer was an Avon Representative for 25 years and owned and operated the Tastee Freeze in Georgetown for many years. She was a founding member of the former Grace Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, going to yard sales, canning and gardening.
Survivors include five children, John T. Mercer, Jr. (Penny) of Georgetown, Maj. Orris B. Mercer (Susie) of Warner Robins, GA, Maureen M. Mobley (Charlie) of Andrews, Meta M. Benninghoff of Andrews and Chief Warrant Officer Dana R. Mercer (Linda) of Conway; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister in law, Vera Mercer Goff; a brother in law, Earl Van Mercer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley B. Mercer; a sister, Vera Camlin; mother in law and father in law, Vergie P. Mercer and William J.B. Mercer; sister in law, Annie Bell Mercer Smith; and two brothers in law, Henry Goff and Lewis H. Smith, II.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Brad Dunn officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Ridgeway Funeral Home.
