Dan Rhett “Bunky” Cumbie, Sr., 79, widower of Mary Frances Wilson Cumbie, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at McLeod Hospice House.
Born on July 4, 1944, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late John Thomas Cumbie and the late Neita Cannon Cumbie. Mr. Cumbie was a devout member of Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired from International Paper Company after 33 years of service. He had a great love for his church, which was evident, as he dedicated countless hours serving any many capacities.
Beyond his love for the church, “Bunky” found comfort in the simple pleasures of working in his yard and traveling to the mountains. His green thumb was matched only by his generous heart and love he had for his beloved family, whom he cherished above all else.
Survivors include two children, Dan Rhett Cumbie, Jr. of Central and Lisa Ann Howard (Mickey) of Andrews; five grandchildren, Mitchell Cumbie (Martha), Jamie Cumbie, Matthew Cumbie (Paige), Pastor Kevin Howard (Madison) and Lance Howard; five great grandchildren, Canaan, John Easton, Ella, Allie and Clay; a sister, Annette Glisson (Ronnie) of Andrews; a brother, Ralph Franklin Cumbie of Andrews; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Frances Wilson Cumbie; a daughter-in-law, Michele Cumbie; a sister, Juanita Woodall; and two brothers, John Cumbie and Oscar Cumbie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The family will receive friends following the service.
