Charles Marion Tanner, 87, widower of Donnell Tanner, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at his home.
Born on January 5, 1937, in Georgetown County, he was a son of the late Wister Tanner and the late Rhodie Cribb Tanner. Mr. Tanner was a member of Center Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a railroad man, retiring from CSX transportation after 44 years. He was an avid sports fan. Pickleball, Senior Olympic Basketball, and fast-pitch softball were just a few of the sports he enjoyed playing and coaching.
Survivors include two children, Lil Tanner Kish (John) of Georgetown and Cale Marion Tanner (Robin) of Georgetown; nine grandchildren, Tanner, Cookie and Carley Martin, Jessica Weiland (Matt), Whitney Causey (Kenneth), Shelby Newton (Jamie), Charles “TJ” and Reid Tanner, and Kari Oliver (deceased); eight great grandchildren, Rory Weiland, Tara and Ana Martin, Hux and Pynner Leigh Causey, Renn, Bexley and Perri Anne Newton; two sisters, Wilma Foxworth and Cinda Woodbury (Albert) both of Hemingway; and three brothers, Samuel Eason Tanner (Millie) of Georgetown, Tom Tanner of Hemingway, and Gene Tanner of Little River.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Center Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Thursday, January 11, 2024 in the church fellowship hall.
