Charles Howard Colter

1925 — July 9, 2018

Charles H. Colter, 93, of Georgetown, South Carolina, passed away on July 9, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Georgetown, SC on July 18th at 2pm with a reception to follow. Funeral services will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church, Dublin, Georgia on July 12th at 1pm with visitation one hour prior.  Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Helena, Georgia.

Charles was born in Cadwell, Georgia to the late Emmett Mitchell Colter and the late Annie Jane Fordham Colter.  A graduate of Cadwell High School, Charles attended the University of Georgia.  He served in the Army as a Private with the Medical Detachment of the 565th Antiaircraft Battalion prior to his honorable discharge in 1943.  Charles’s family made their home in Macon, Georgia for many years.  He was employed with Georgia Kraft and WNEX Radio before retiring from Robins AFB, Warner Robins, Georgia as a sheet metal mechanic in 1991.    Upon retirement, Charles and his wife moved to Dublin, Georgia where he enjoyed working at Allen-Bradley and being their Christmas Santa.  In 2008 Charles moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina.  As a member of the McDonalds morning coffee club, Charles and his friends would laugh trying to solve the world’s problems.  Charles enjoyed sharing the Good News, reading and studying the Bible, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.  Mr. “Amen Charlie” was a member of the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, SC.

Charles is survived by his daughter Suzanne Billig (Bruce) of Manassas, VA; son-in-law Ron Kikta of Pawleys Island, SC; grandsons, Robbye Brooks (Cathy) of Cary, NC, Adrian Banan (Sharon) of Grayson, GA; granddaughter Lorry Kikta of Queens, NY; great-grandchildren Ethan Banan of Suwanee, GA, Caitlin Brooks and McKay Brooks of Cary, NC; sister Ouida Coleman of Rentz, GA; sister-in-law Louise Colter of Dublin, GA and many extended family members.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Priscilla Batchelor Colter; daughter Starlette Kikta; sisters Pauline Graham, Audrey Brantley, Aline Golden, Dorothy Bracewell, Juanita Silas; brother Edward Colter.

The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice and Morningside of Georgetown.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland Street, Georgetown, SC 29440 or New Bethel Baptist Church, 3051 GA Hwy 257, Dublin, GA, 31021.
