Bobby Leon Johnson, Sr., 78, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Johnson was born in the Oceda section of Georgetown County on October 23, 1944, a son of the late William C. and Anzie L. Johnson. He was a 1962 graduate of Andrews High School and worked 26 years at Andrews Wire Co. holding several positions including Quality Control Supervisor and Plant Superintendent.
Mr. Johnson was retired military after serving 3 ½ years in the US Navy and 18 years in the SC Army National Guard. He served aboard the USS Ault DD-698 during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Sgt. 1st Class with several accommodations and awards including Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Three (3) Oak Leaf Clusters; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with One (1) Hourglass; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with One (1) Device; Army Service Ribbon; South Carolina Active State Service Medal (15 years); and South Carlina Governors Unit Citation. He was a member of Gourdines Chapel Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of his dogs, cats, and chickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Martha J. Cooper, Beatrice J. Cooper and Micki J. Shirley; six brothers, Russell L. Johnson, Lawrence W. Johnson, Calvin C. “Pete” Johnson, Hubert Johnson, JC Johnson and Levis R. “LR” Johnson; a granddaughter, Laura Anderson; and a son-in-law, Nick Wall.
Mr. Johnson was married to Shama Maring Johnson for 55 years. From this marriage came four children, Tonya J. Lee, Kimberly J. Wall, Bobby L. Johnson, II (Dorothy) and Joshua Allan Johnson (Jenna).
Surviving in addition to his wife and children are 11 grandchildren, Carson and David Lee, Nicholas, Travis, and Jenna Anderson, Alex Wall, Sebastian and Mikayla Johnson, Shelby Forrester (Zack), Julia and Jonas Johnson; two step-grandchildren, Spencer, and Grant Wall; and three great grandchildren, Jaxson, Roxy and Alexander Forrester.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Gourdines Chapel Church. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM at Gourdines Chapel Church prior to the service.
