Betty Norris Causey, 83, beloved wife of John B. Causey, left this earthly realm on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Born in Conway, on March 16, 1940, to the late Jack Norris and the late Fannie Lewis Norris, Betty was raised on the family farm with her nine siblings. It was in Conway she met the love of her life, John B. Causey, and the two were married on December 13, 1959. After living in various areas of South Carolina, John and Betty made Georgetown their home. Betty worked in retail for several years, but her favorite and most important job was being a homemaker.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was in the Samaritan Sunday school class. Betty had a great love for music and enjoyed playing the piano. Through the years she shared this talent by playing for the children’s choir, Sunday school classes, nursing homes, and various church services. Her love for Christ was evident in everything she said and everything she did.
Betty fought a valiant fight against Parkinson’s disease. No matter how sick she was, she never stopped fighting. She was determined and was the definition of resilience and perseverance.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, John Bostick Causey; her beloved children, Patty Cumbee (Larry) and Patrick Causey (Gilda); five granddaughters, who affectionally called her “Memaw”, Isabella, Natalie, Regan, Hannah and Sadie; a brother-in-law, Maxey Coleman; a sister-in-law, Estelle Norris; a special lifelong friend, Hilda Rabon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings; Rob, Edith, Mildred, Dock, Ruby, John, James, Archie and Jane.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2023, in the Hillcrest Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday at First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland St. Georgetown, SC 29440 or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Debra Burgess, Suette Mickel, Shonia Simmons, Betty Knowlin and Amedisys Hospice for the loving care and compassion they provided to Mrs. Causey.
