Bette Nelson Milligan Brown, 90, widow of Alan G. Brown, Jr., passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024.
Born on August 5, 1934, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late William Nelson Milligan and the late Bessie Rosalee Rembert Milligan. Bette attended Winyah High School and graduated in the class of 1952 as the Valedictorian. She graduated from Sister of Mercy School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later graduated from the University of South Carolina at Coastal as a registered nurse. Bette was a registered nurse for 70+ years in Georgetown County.
She was a lifelong supporter of the South Carolina Gamecocks as well as a lifelong Red Cross Blood Drive Supporter. She was a 30-year member of the Navy Club and an avid beach goer. Bette was a charter member of the Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church. She was appointed as a Commissioner of the Georgetown County Higher Education Commission.
Survivors include her three sons; Alan G. Brown, III, Nelson E. Brown (Jamie), and James Galt Brown; four grandchildren, William Travis Brown (Amber), Christopher Allen Brown (Ava), Brook Ashley Brown (Taelor) and Nicholas Hampton Brown (Chrystyn); several great grandchildren; a sister, Maureen Milligan Cantrell; a nephew, Taylor Cantrell; and a niece, Quentin Cantrell.
She was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Jean Brown.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, November 29, 2024, at Herbert Memorial Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM – 11 AM at the church.
