Barry Lynn Chandler, 73, husband of Melanie Hemingway Chandler, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at his home.
Born on October 27, 1951, in Charlotte, NC, he was a son of the late Sherod Thomas Chandler and the late Bettie Mae Watts Chandler. Mr. Chandler was a US Air Force veteran and was a member of Union United Methodist Church where he was a part of the Men of Union group and served as a trustee and on various committees.
Mr. Chandler had a great love for the outdoors, a place where he found solace in hunting and fishing. These hobbies were not just pastimes for Mr. Chander; they were a way of life. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Mr. Chandler was a talented gunsmith. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and unparalleled craftsmanship, he took great pride in working on firearms. Above all, Mr. Chandler was a devoted family man. He cherished moments spent with his wife, children and grandson. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the memories he created. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of Hemingway; one daughter, Muriel Taylor (Jason) of Greenville; one grandson, Benjamin Taylor (Madeline Hansen) of Greenville; a brother, Tommy Chandler (Jane) of Johnsonville; three brothers-in-law, Sel Hemingway (Kathy), Bill Hemingway, and Rick Hemingway (Lindsay); one sister-in-law Ellen Morris (Michael) all of Rhems; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Rod Chandler and Andy Chandler.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Union United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Friday at the home.
