Amon Bone, Jr., “Train Man”, 91, widower of Irene Gray Bone, passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 13, 1932, in Georgetown County, he was a son of the late Amon Bone, Sr. and the late Allien Jacobs Bone. Mr. Bone was a member of All Saints Church Pawleys Island and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), where he spent decades honing his skills and contributing to the betterment of his community and industry. His commitment to his trade was matched only by his remarkable ingenuity, earning him a reputation as a talented inventor whose ideas and creations left a lasting impact on those around him. As the owner of Pawleys Island Electric, Mr. Bone built a thriving business that became synonymous with excellence and reliability. His work ethic and dedication were evident in every project he undertook.
Mr. Bone’s brain never stopped working, and he was always eager to tackle new projects. A master woodworker, he found immense joy in building furniture, creating pieces that were not only functional but also works of art. His love for working with his hands was evident in every meticulously crafted detail.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Bone had a lifelong love for trains. This passion was a thread woven throughout his life, from collecting trains and building his own train. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he delighted in sharing this joy with family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Kathy B. Barnes (Kenny) of Pawleys Island, Richard A. "Ricky" Bone (Sherhal) of Georgetown and Teressa B. "Terri" Black (Dean) of Pawleys Island; eight grandchildren, Eric Heinemann (Tracy) of Pawleys Island, Ryan Heinemann (Ashely) of Isle of Palms, Bryan Bone of Georgetown and Cory Bone (Maree) of Georgetown, Krista Haydt (Damon) of Murrells Inlet, Breanna Truex of Murrells Inlet, Laurin Bone of Hemingway and Kendahl Bone of Pawleys Island; 15 great grandchildren, Elizabeth Heinemann, Anna Heinemann, Macallan Heinemann, Kenzi Phillips, Khole Phillips, Brynn Bone, Bella Davis, Ozzie Haas, Peyton Bone, Cayson Bone, Maddox Lee, Chase Haydt, Chloe Haydt, Madelyn Truex and Allison Truex; two sisters, Dorothy Bone of GA and Barbara Flanagan of TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Bone; a grandson, Robert Aaron Pieterse; and a brother, Freddie Bone.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, October 26, 2024 at All Saints The Old Church. Burial will follow in the All Saints Church Cemetery.
The family would like to invite everyone to join them immediately following the interment at the home of Dean and Terri Black at 256 Otter Run Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, October 25, 2024 at Ridgeway Funeral Home.
