Obituary of Joan Estelle Bryce-Crompton

Joan Estelle Bryce Crompton, 69, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016 at her home. Born on November 21, 1946, in Bethesda, Maryland, Joan was the daughter of the late Frank Jackson Bryce and Mary LaRue Arnold Thomas. She was a graduate of The University of Maryland where she earned a Master of Arts in Theater. In her youth, Joan was a dancer, horseback rider, actress, hiker, scuba diver, and performing arts manager. Joan was also a freelance writer whose way with words was only second to her love of people. Despite multiple health problems, Joan lived her life to the fullest and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Joan enjoyed writing, rescuing animals, gardening, cooking, spending time with her friends and family. Joan was an active member of Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church, where she proudly served as a lay reader and member of the intercessory prayer group. Surviving are her husband, William Allen Crompton; children, Jackson William (Kayla) Crompton, Emma Grace (Jason) Wheeler, and Esther Elizabeth Crompton; siblings, Dr. Barbara Bryce and Dr. Jackson Bryce; grandchildren Madlynn and Timothy, grandmother-in-law Elizabeth Crompton, and numerous brothers-in-laws. A memorial service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on Thursday, February 11th, at 2 pm, at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church in Pawleys Island, SC. A reception will follow directly after.
