Obituary of Alan Lanier Smoak

Alan Lanier Smoak, 75, husband of Veiva Mayfield Smoak, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on May 8, 1942, in Williamsburg County, he was the son of the late Hubert Wilbur Smoak and the late Lucille Connelly Smoak. Mr. Smoak was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in many other leadership roles. He was a US Navy Veteran and was retired from the Georgetown Steel Mill. Mr. Smoak was a devout Christian and dedicated follower of Christ who enjoyed serving in the community through Teen Challenge of South Carolina and the Good News Club. He also enjoyed fishing, shrimping and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; three children, Alan L. Smoak, Jr. (Michelle) of Moncks Corner, Sheila S. Ellison (Scott) of Pawleys Island and Gerritt W. Smoak (Crystal) of Anderson; nine grandchildren, Jenna Smoak, Ally Smoak, Jillian Smoak, Kinsey Besser, John Besser, Ben Besser, Jacob Besser, Kristen Smoak and Jaylen Smoak; six sisters, Gail Dick of Maggie Valley, NC, Judy Newton of Andrews, Kay Gibson of Lake Junaluska, NC, Annette Denton of Van Wyck, Sarah Shuford of Clyde, NC and Deane Smoak of Surfside Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Friday, June 23, 2017 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
